Tuesday. Slow, rainy. Writing. Deals.

The title sums up my day so far.

Promoting my second published novel Beach Town: Hope as it hasn’t had as many reviews as the first. Would love some more. Really not sure about the 3rd book. I have a plot, start etc. but haven’t wrote anything more than the first chapter. Focusing on Survivors seems to have taken the lead, Survivors Part II was finished before Christmas, I just need to edit the story and then I can unleash it to you all.

Woke up to yet another rain shower this morning, drilling into my ceiling I might add. I live in a top floor apartment, it’s not super loud or annoying but would rather wake to sunshine. I’m sure you all would.

Dawn Of The Dead (1978) Movie Review from Eye for Film

Writing a new short story on Wattpad again. The Mortuary is focused on Gareth as he conducts as autopsy, but then the deceased start to rise from the grave. I might carry on writing this at some point but for now you have a big chunk to read may be part I, or just the full story. Might writer more, see how I feel about it. Of course you also have The Zombie Lands to check out. A slow start, but I guess the dead are slow. The farmer hasn’t really had much luck getting out of the area yet!

Writing in the Cold – What am I working on?

I hope you are having a great season. It’s cold and wet here. I’m enjoying a regular writing schedule again after some time away from it. After all, what is being a writer if not writing!

Well the projects I was working on, namely Beach Town: Survivors [Part II] have ended up being a little longer than expected and I’m not finished yet. Yesterday I took the decision to kill off a few characters in rapid succession – quite a distress I must say. Given the story a novel would have been a possibility. It’s got a focus on two groups this time, both surviving through the day with various consequences. We can see from the fact that it’s the end of the world that it has turned people both crazy and stupid. Maybe that’s what it’s about, just people and the struggles they go through.

All that blood and guts doesn’t end there though. I hoped to release it before the end of the year but it’s quite likely to be in the new year when I release it. As always your support of the work is greatly appreciated in the form of downloading and reviewing on release. I have to finish the story and then edit. Apologies for taking longer than expected. It’s still planned to be a mini series, with Part III estimated now for a spring release.

I already have a new year goal to finish some of my work in progress novels. I’ll tell you why – because then I’ll have more stories to share with you. It’s not that they aren’t stories I believe in that has caused me not to finish, it’s simply me switching to different things and taking time from writing them. Also, I don’t publish everything, so when I have something that I want to publish I take a very different approach to it; more detailed writing and editing, more feedback, more cuts and edits etc.

Talk about writers procrastinating.

So many people want to write and following a brief post I made yesterday I believe anyone who writes a story to be a writer. Published or self published or not, you write a story you are a writer. I don’t like seeing people online getting discouraged because they share their story to find people call them aspiring writers. Sure the title of author is a little different, and published author makes you think of the big cats raking in millions. IN general though, you are a writer even if you finish just one story. Keep at it.

There’s a wide range of resources available online. The following link provides a general guide to actually starting a story:

This link provides tips to actually writing a novel, a bigger more in depth task than a shorter story:

Stay Tuned Survivors – Updated book cover & more

As we see the lonesome survivor trek the beach, with the wreckage of some distant building, we wonder how long he has. As Survivors Part I draws you into a small group, it soon tears you apart. The updated cover is more in line with an apocalypse. No zombies however as the thought that the dead are somewhere else, waiting is more frightening.

The original cover will remain in the ebook. It is just the outside cover I changed. I am also hoping that with time I can churn out a physical book with the back cover.

Stay tuned as Part II is well underway and is at this point turning out to be quite the story. I’ve got to admit that it’s going to be a longer story too, unintentionally. I think you’ll be glad in the end it is. There are two main groups. Albeit I originally planned on focusing on one. However, the second group makes things a lot more interesting. The Resistance – a group intent on surviving and building a future is just hit with dilemma after dilemma. Our hope is that they will survive to live another day, to see a better world beginning.

Will the Resistance conquer the undead or will they too crumble beneath bitter power struggles and the weight of zombies on their doorsteps? Be sure to read an exciting Part I now so you can stay up to date with Beach Town.

June Newsletter & Cover Update

New font for the title and slightly adjusted position. I actually prefer this rugged look to it. Do you? Feedback is welcomed.

I can change the font to the new ‘rugged’ looking font to make it all similar. Please let me know if you like this new font compared to the other. I left them both in for choice. I am really tempted to go with the new one I found.

As always thanks for reading and looking and any comments and feedback welcomed. ❤

Writing Goals for June

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog post today. I hope you have had an enjoyable week and are looking forward to the weekend celebrations. I read a post on social media describing someone’s writing goals on the Medium platform. I have published a few posts there myself, however my site is my main source of writing. Plus, you all get to see it! It would take a while to build up to the same amount of followers on there, so will add to Medium every once in a while.

So my motivation was sparked by that post to add my own writing goals for June. I listed 3 main goals in my notepad. I also listed 3 lesser goals. Here they are:

1) To Complete my Masters Submission for the 10th June.

As part of my law course I have to do a masters too, it is on clinical legal education and involves a critical reflective report. I have managed 2,500 words on it today taking the word count to just over 6,000. I have to write between 8000-9000 words overall. So tomorrow I will edit what I’ve written today. I am planning to have completed it by Sunday or Monday which will give me a few days to review and edit it.

2) Finish Beach Town: Survivors

The new upcoming and horrifying novella which I plan to release in August 2022. A summer release for what I think it quite the gruesome and dramatic story. I’ve managed to crank out 2,500 yesterday or more, and tonight I suspect I will be able to finish the story. There has been a lot of surprises whilst writing, namely that it is just full of bizarre twists and turns and unexpected happenings. You can see a little more about that by going to the post below, where you can also see what I hope is going to be a good cover!

3) To Reach 600 Followers on WordPress

I really enjoy connecting with you all here on WordPress and putting out content which is so well received. I would love to hit 600 followers by the end of the month. I don’t have that many to go and have exceeded my expectations massively this year, as I’ve gained so many great new ones and likewise discovered so many new and fascinating blog sites here.

4) To Write More About my Life

As I recently started counselling sessions I hope to be able to keep a more accurate diary of my days and to try and incorporate that onto this site sometimes. I think it will allow me to actually see where things are improving, and where things are still in need of support. Many people do this so why not dedicate more time to it?

Well that is all for now and as usual thank you for reading, if you enjoyed then like, comment, reblog and follow and share all over. Also, check out the Dawn of the Dead (1978) movie review below if you like.

Free Writing Software {alternatives to word!]

Everyone is familiar with Microsoft Word. It is a well known, worldwide document writing software on computers. A lot of computers used to come with it pre-installed and you would then have to pay to activate it.

However, despite using it to write stories, my subscription expired in April and I have not renewed it. To be precise my office package expired including email. In the past I’ve used programs like Open Word, which I had pre-installed on my last laptop. I haven’t really looked into free software but it is a lot better, it is free and most of them do the same as Word. I have also changed how I view Microsoft, I don’t value it. I never liked the company.

Now you can use Microsoft 365 online for free, but this post is about alternatives, because I am not recommending the company for anything. Please consider doing some research into their history, their aspirations, and oh yeah, take a look at how Bill Gates has hijacked the healthcare system in the USA.

1) Google Documents – allows you to work anywhere. It is functional offline too.

2) Zoho Documents

3) Libre Office – I use this now, and it really is fantastic, you can even edit PDF using this software for free without buying Adobe!

4) Abiword

5) WPS Office Writer

6) Apache Open Office – great software, although I still prefer Libre. This is a good basic alternative.

Of course all computers usually come with software called WordPad which is basic, but allows you to write and create document without issues. Formatting is limited. Going even simpler, Notepad is available, and to the barebones, Sticky Notes.

Now that covers some alternatives. I think people are scared to venture from Word since it is the go to software for many. I want you to know that choosing another software does not make you inferior! No! It makes you better!

Illinois Gal

Small town girl
on the streets of Illinois
from Chicago or Springfield
to the white house
a woman of passion
letters that tell of heart ache
a façade that decorates the makeup
just the gal that nobody noticed
until she touched the top
and then everybody wanted to know

Peter is in the grips of a dark night, and his carnal desires are causing him to put his own life in danger without even realising it. Is it karma or is it fate? Each short episode or part is released daily.
