Tuesday. Slow, rainy. Writing. Deals.

The title sums up my day so far.

Promoting my second published novel Beach Town: Hope as it hasn’t had as many reviews as the first. Would love some more. Really not sure about the 3rd book. I have a plot, start etc. but haven’t wrote anything more than the first chapter. Focusing on Survivors seems to have taken the lead, Survivors Part II was finished before Christmas, I just need to edit the story and then I can unleash it to you all.

Woke up to yet another rain shower this morning, drilling into my ceiling I might add. I live in a top floor apartment, it’s not super loud or annoying but would rather wake to sunshine. I’m sure you all would.

Dawn Of The Dead (1978) Movie Review from Eye for Film

Writing a new short story on Wattpad again. The Mortuary is focused on Gareth as he conducts as autopsy, but then the deceased start to rise from the grave. I might carry on writing this at some point but for now you have a big chunk to read may be part I, or just the full story. Might writer more, see how I feel about it. Of course you also have The Zombie Lands to check out. A slow start, but I guess the dead are slow. The farmer hasn’t really had much luck getting out of the area yet!

Passionate about You

You can't see the fire within

But you will feel the heat

Inside

Quick Point on Protests

When it comes to having passions, I think that is great. I love hearing about peoples lives, passions and hobbies, goals and more. When you push it too far into the realm that affects others though, it isn’t a good thing.

I wanted to express my opinion on this topic. When I see protestors I don’t see their point in hurting, disturbing or insulting the normal people not involved. Yes it involves some harm. You might say that protest is a great thing to oppose the institutions. Sure when done correctly.

Lately I keep seeing vegans showing animals abuse and slaughter in the streets on television screens, they wear masks and don’t speak. I agree with one or two people that this is disgusting to be showing people walking around in public, especially children. It isn’t fair to push this on people with the insinuation that they are bad for eating meat. Eating a plant based diet has benefits, sure. But there is a need for some humans to eat meat. Their bodies cannot tolerate all plant based or they lack protein from it. This is not a diet issue with some but a medical issue. So when I see vegan pushing it against everyone – including myself – I get offended.

Then there is the sitting in road protests against oil. It disturbs people from getting to work. It stop emergency services. What does this achieve? Nothing. Stopping cars on one road will not impact billion pound energy companies from selling oil. Nor will it stop the customer from buying it.

That is all. I don’t think forcing these things on people is the way to go. It makes me frustrated to see this because it upsets my fellow human beings and that in turn affects me. Being passionate doesn’t mean you should cause people alarm and distress. Love one another!

Now onto writing. I have a short story ready to publish although not sure if I will. I also started to publish one on Wattpad – exclusive there until further notice. It is called The Zombie Lands and will have a new part released every Saturday. You can follow me on there for updates on the story. It is free. I suppose I could put it for sale but it’s free for now. So enjoy!

Movies to come (summer ’22)

Luckily there is hope for cinema, we can expect some real blockbusters to finally grace our screens. It feels like a bit of a scam having to wait for movies which were delayed, when they could have released direct to home video. That could of been Prime video, Netflix and the multitude of channels and apps available. Take No Time To Die (2021) which was delayed over 2 years. A bit of a joke.

But then again the movie industry has also gotten into the ridiculous groove of advertising movies up to 2 years before planned release, sometimes 3. Yes you read that correctly. I remember when movies were advertised about a month or to before they were due to hit cinema screens. Honestly this is so pathetic of the movie makers and companies, desperate to build interest because they know they are pumping out either remakes or reboots. I have yet to see something original from them.

Jurassic World Dominion was something I’d looked forward to for some time, yet it’s been delayed for 2 years. Come on! I finally saw a trailer which stated it is coming to cinemas in June. About time!

Oh wait, can you hear that? It’s the sound of Tom Cruises bones breaking as he shifts his wrinkled ass into the cockpit of a fighter jet for Top Gun, Maverick. Yes, he’s not only continued in Mission Impossible, but decided to engage in the Top Gun series once again. Talk about reboot and sequels from hell. What is going on? Tom, you will probably see this, please for the sake of your dignity stick with Mission Impossible. Heck I loved The Mummy (2017) after having the initial reaction in the first 5 mins that it would be rubbish, it turned out to be a great film.

Prepare for the ego trip that will be Avatar 2. And wait, we’ll have a 3rd and 4th film too in a few years. Don’t you love originality? If you didn’t know, Avatar was the highest grossing movie of all time. Followed by Avengers Endgame (not seen this) and then Titanic (who doesn’t want to see that one scene?). I was hoping to see Ghostbusters Afterlife, but didn’t have a chance to.

There is a little hope, with Lightyear. Based on Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. I am glad this is going to be a film. Expected to release in June. I watched Buzz in smaller shorter movies as a kid, but I think this will be worth it. I never watched all of Toy Story 4 as I just never went back to watch it after starting. I was happy saying goodbye after the 3rd movie.

And if you hadn’t got your fix of awful acting from Keanu Reeves, well brace for him to return in John Wick, chapter 4. As usual overhyped and coming out March 2023. What a joke. If the movie is complete, then release it. I wish people would stop paying to see this tripe.

One more which I think looked original. Ready? Bullet Train, expected to release in August! Starring sexy Brad Pitt (fight club, once upon a time in hollywood, world war z). “Five assassins aboard a fast moving bullet train find out their missions have something in common.” The most interesting looking movie! Based on the book.

What do you want to see this year? I’ve already watched The Batman in March. I honestly forgot I watched it, although I did appreciate the darker, more gothic tones than previous movies. Thinking about it, I’ve missed watching a few new movies.

Morning Sunshine Saturday

Good morning to all you wonderful souls out there reading this post. I hope the sunrise is as beautiful there are it is here. The sun is out, the birds are chirping and the day has a glow of elegant expression.

Today I will be writing, and focused on that in its entirety. My goal is get some work added to the Wattpad story Apocalypse on Easy Street, which so far has 5 parts. I’m listening to classical music on Classic FM which is a relaxing and mindful station for anyone looking for a radio to work to. For breakfast a wrap of chili kidney beans and full caffeinated coffee.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, why?”

“You never drink caffeinated coffee!”

That is true, but since I don’t have decaffeinated and I don’t want tea, I’ll drink as I please. Besides, life is too short. Maybe one day you’ll wake up and smell the coffee. Anyway back to the writing. Aside from the Wattpad zombie story, which is more of a fun thing on the side, I’ll also be adding to my work in progress zombie novel set in the English countryside. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t bore you with too many details. I’m not exactly famous so it is not like anyone really cares, you know?

I want to add a ‘grateful’ section to this post, listing what I am grateful for this morning. Here I go, be free to add your own in the comments:

1) The sunrise 2) the birdsong 3) the food I am about to receive 4) the computer I am using 5) my ability to work on the computer 6) the fresh air 7) My imagination 8) music 9) to be able to sit on my sofa without fear of being attacked 10) God

I hope you have enjoyed this morning post. Sorry to keep the poem till last. You know me by now.

Having the morning breakfast proper

loaded up for the day

to write

to have fun

my life is going the right way... for once.

Spotlight #2 Chris Profeta

Writing spotlight number 2 is indie author/writer Chris. A fantasy writer predominantly on Wattpad where you can read his fantasy epic for free. I had the pleasure of talking to Christopher about his work and he wanted to sum up his writing life which is great. So without further introduction, please enjoy his story on creating his work The Search for the Eoz Potion. He had a rather philosophical and religious outlook on his work, which was different.

Everything is Temporary

I’m not a good writer.  I struggle to fill in the minor details of a story and to have them amount to any kind of larger purpose.  I’m also really bad with typos, but that’s not relevant to this blog pist…I mean, “post.”  (I also have a cheesy sense of humor.)

About five years ago, I had an idea for a fantasy story.  I had never written one before and didn’t really even enjoy reading them much, but my kids and I had just finished the Harry Potter series and were struggling to find something new to read together.  Like any good father/writer, I decided I would write one for them.  This is where my problem with being a bad writer becomes important.  Better, I suppose, to be a bad writer than a bad father.

Frustrated, I decided to turn to the children for help.  I explained the basic idea – a girl searching in a secret world for a magic potion to cure her sick friend – then gave each child a character to help develop.  They came up with the personality, backstory, physical description, and all the other details. We mapped out a basic plot diagram and then I worked on fitting all the pieces together into one coherent story.  Once I was able to convince them to hold off on the giant half chicken/half penguin monster until the sequel (stay on the lookout for that one, folks…), we ended up with what I thought was a pretty solid story about sacrifice and friendship that we called “The Search for the Eoz Potion.”  I have been posting it free on Wattpad here.

So that took care of the specific details of the story, but what about the second part of writing I’m bad at, giving the story a larger meaning?  This is something I always overthought as a writer, but this time around it kind of took care of itself.

About the same time that I was writing the book, I had the opportunity to learn from a man who is both a Jewish Rabbi and a Lutheran Pastor.  Over the course of a week long lecture series, he taught about the original Hebrew text of some of the more famous passages from both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible including the book of Ecclesiasties.  He taught us that the famous proclamation from Solomon that “everything is meaningless” is better translated as everything is “vapor” or “breath.”  The Hebrew word “chevel” that is often translated as “meaningless” is better understood, he argued, as referring to something that is temporary.

So where is the connection, you may ask.  Well, I have always shied away from stories about fantasy worlds because of how complex they can be to write (again, see opening line about my writing ability), but also because as a reader myself I often found them to be far fetched and removed from reality.  I preferred stories that spoke to what I saw around me, but when I would try to write them, they were too boring to even force my closest friends and family to read.

Chevel solved these problems.  It gave me a better appreciation of how books that create fantasy worlds that exist parallel to our own reality can help us to better understand the world.  What we experience everyday is meaningless, it is temporary, it is a vapor that exists only briefly.  There is, in fact, something more.  Obviously when we put it in its biblical context it means something much more complex than a simple blog post could uncover, but I’ve learned that fantasy writing is far more consequential than I ever truly appreciated.

In “The Search for the Eoz Potion,” for example, the main characters’ time in the “fantasy world” gives them a deeper sense of purpose in the “real world.”  There is a moment when one of the characters has a flashback to her life back home.  She remembers the pressures her parents put on her to be the best at school, in her extracurricular activities, and in sports.  She recognizes that her inability to ever live up to their expectations is crippling her, and she then comes to the following realization:

“School, student council, softball, none of it mattered in the Garden.  She liked that.  She had one goal, one thing to focus on – finding the Eoz Potion.”

Chevel.

A Story of Trust, Survival and Friendship.

https://www.wattpad.com/story/308318436-zombie-outbreaks

I have started a new short story on Wattpad called Apocalypse on Easy Street. Although called zombie outbreaks as well. Let me explain before we go any further. Zombie outbreaks is the parent of the stories within it. In other words, zombie outbreaks will consist of multiple stories. The first being the Easy Street story. If you understand then nod your head otherwise get on your knees for forgiveness.

The experience with Wattpad has been a bit up and down. I was reluctant to use it and am still a little reluctant to use it. It is free to use, but some authors have the options to make their content paid for. There is also the possibility of being published and turned to movie and tv which is why I think so many people use it. I am using it to firstly, create a story and see how it is received and secondly as a way to reach more readers. I would love some of my followers on here to go and give it a read, so I can be encouraged to either continue, if good or stop if bad. Soggy biscuits in tea anyone?

The story revolves around strong willed Ida, a 12 year old who lives a life under the watchful eye of her socialite parents. She doesn’t have many friends but is fascinated with her neighbour Kayla, who is 23 years old. On a day out, things don’t go as planned as it is Ida’s day off school and all she wants to do is blog at home. Her mother drags her out, and being stuck unable to even get off their street, Kayla pops up, being a known friend to the family and offers to take Ida for a while whilst her mother goes to town, to Ida’s relief. Soon though the problems in Kayla’s life become clear and things take a turn for the worse. At Ida’s home there seems to be something weirder going on, the neighbours have gone mad, insane and are attacking one another. The pair soon realise a once calm existence is overhauled, there is a zombie outbreak. What on earth are the pair going to do? They aren’t exactly besties, so how can they trust one another to survive? Follow the pair from the outbreak to the finish line, survival!

Thanks for reading, like, comment and follow and reblog if you enjoyed and head over to check out the new story. Many thanks, Wizard.

Rubber Duck

Bubbles in my bath

foaming with the riff-raff

duck is floating by my nostrils

sinking lower into ceramic holes

down the sink hole shall it all go

childhood has turned to dust

bones are beginning to rust

in this dirty water

how I miss my rubber ducks

Embracing Online Writing Platform [Wattpad)

I had my fears and niggling voices about Wattpad in the past. I used to have a brief look and think to myself, too risky to publish on the platform, for risk of theft of work. I have done something incredible and actually created a short romance/lust/erotic/manhood story called Discovery Avenue – doing well peaking at #5 in manhood already and #15 in cutegirl. I believe some of you already had a look which is great.

My new venture is going to focus on two young girls, with a ten + age gap as they pair up to survive the zombie apocalypse. Not the usual protagonists, so could be classed as young adult… possibly? Again, meant to be a short story. I don’t really intend to drag anything out. This is all part of my experiment with the platform. Please also try to look past the titles, I know they are not great. Zombies was the original title until publishing the first part of the story and then changing to Zombie Outbreaks. I have a plan for the story, but not glued to it. I hope that everybody has a chance to check it out.

https://www.wattpad.com/story/308318436-zombie-outbreaks

If you can forgive the cheesy titles then please consider following me on Wattpad and reading my stories. I just started writing a zombie apocalypse tale, with different types of protagonists than I am used to. Check the synopsis below:

The dead are rising quickly, over taking the small suburbs of Britain. On Easy Street, it is anything but easy as 12 year old Ida and 23 year old Kayla attempt to survive most of their now undead neighbourhood!

They expect to be able to find shelter further afield, and plan to try and get to the airport. However, multiple obstacles they will find! Living and undead threats abound.

Slipping Through My Hands

Honing into a fletched clumbered path

shown a mysterious moment in time

how confused was I

at the things waiting for me

being mine, confused again at this underlying, event

a sprocket loaded full of repent in your phone

do you feel like talking to my face

turning away as loss becomes frequent

slipped through my hands...

can be extremely painful

losing someone

even more so

when that somebody

just so happened, to be you.

No denial in the hands of the wolf

or your desire to lay with a hay stack

let me hold you one more time

once more dance to our shared lives

a life that is ready to accept

slipped through the cracks

had to turn back

found you lying still

loss of light from eyes

burning passion wipes away secret tears

where do you go?

bowed at the knight

Gabriel, "bless her with delight"

no more, slipped into the blight.

Consider reading this poem, powerful words.

Cheese Glorious Cheese… & Fries

Confession time. Not last night, but the night before I ate this chicken burger. It was called a ‘tower burger’ and consisted of chicken, hash brown, cheese, lettuce and tomatoe and onion, some BBQ sauce and two lovely buns – not the sesame buns, some variety of gourmet/posh buns. Anyway, I hadn’t slept and I needed to eat so I ordered. It came with really tasty crispy fries with peri peri powder, brilliant taste. I am supposed to be a vegan but since I hadn’t slept I felt like I should divulge myself. Anyway it was lovely and I considered it a treat. Was it filling? Yes it was. Did it taste nice? Hell yes. How did I feel after? I have no idea as half hour after eating I blacked out for 12 hours on the sofa, apparently You Only Live Twice {James Bond} had played on tv and at some point turned itself off, as the day after it said ‘watch again.’ Well I slept right through that.

The picture above is from the site I ordered from. They forget my drink even though I ordered a meal which included one. Not the end of the world, great takeaway. I feel slightly guilty though for giving in to the meaty temptation. I suffered bad heartburn and a ‘junk food hangover’ the next day. It reminded me why I went vegan to begin with!

It wouldn’t be a good post without a poem about said burger: I Ate Chicken, Ultimate Vegan Sinner

Not knowing how passion could exist without it
or how the eyelids could remain awake
the meaning of life slipped into a bun
I remember just how much it was 'yum-yum'
no pickled beetroot, no devastating soya
I just know, I was all out of juice
