Do you want to be a full time writer? (poll question time. Yay!) Morning Stretch.

Obviously writing full time is going to take the fun out of writing. Plus you will literally have no other choice but to treat it like a full time job, 9-5 everyday. People think they can just write when they want and class themselves as writers, true to an extent, but those aspiring to write full time have no chance because it is a full time job. You have to write everyday to make money, time not writing is going to cost you. You’ll end up without any money. Even if you do pump out a lot of work, there is no guarantee you’ll earn enough to sustain yourself. It is saddening to see so many young people start to become ‘writers’ because they had a good idea, and then later find themselves without money trying to convince people on twitter they are writing full time. I find that so-called writers are spending a lot of time on twitter and other social media. I don’t, but over the last two weeks I have spent more time on there in the hope to see irregular posts from authors. Most of them are on there posting **** all day everyday. They are obviously using their phones. I don’t have a smart phone thank goodness, save me and my soul from the mundane. I just don’t get it, are they actually writing, or spending all their time imagining writing? I am not going back on there for some time. It was well over something like 9 months before I posted something again.

Cheese Glorious Cheese… & Fries

Confession time. Not last night, but the night before I ate this chicken burger. It was called a ‘tower burger’ and consisted of chicken, hash brown, cheese, lettuce and tomatoe and onion, some BBQ sauce and two lovely buns – not the sesame buns, some variety of gourmet/posh buns. Anyway, I hadn’t slept and I needed to eat so I ordered. It came with really tasty crispy fries with peri peri powder, brilliant taste. I am supposed to be a vegan but since I hadn’t slept I felt like I should divulge myself. Anyway it was lovely and I considered it a treat. Was it filling? Yes it was. Did it taste nice? Hell yes. How did I feel after? I have no idea as half hour after eating I blacked out for 12 hours on the sofa, apparently You Only Live Twice {James Bond} had played on tv and at some point turned itself off, as the day after it said ‘watch again.’ Well I slept right through that.

The picture above is from the site I ordered from. They forget my drink even though I ordered a meal which included one. Not the end of the world, great takeaway. I feel slightly guilty though for giving in to the meaty temptation. I suffered bad heartburn and a ‘junk food hangover’ the next day. It reminded me why I went vegan to begin with!

It wouldn’t be a good post without a poem about said burger: I Ate Chicken, Ultimate Vegan Sinner

Not knowing how passion could exist without it
or how the eyelids could remain awake
the meaning of life slipped into a bun
I remember just how much it was 'yum-yum'
no pickled beetroot, no devastating soya
I just know, I was all out of juice

Secret to Blog Success

Over the years as I have built my blog I have noticed a few things which can contribute to a great blog. From browsing the thousands of sites available over WordPress, to delving into the fabric of my own. There are many factors to being successful, and I am about to talk about a few here.

Passion – Like anything in life, it requires passion. That means dedication, building a blog you enjoy and that others will enjoy. Passion comes within your heart, like a furnace burning bright. A blog or site full of content built from love and care will attract such a following.

Personalisation – A personal site which is unique can help considerably. Having your own domain name will boost traffic to the site. Having a personalised site will help to get across your passion and build your blog, If you have an image, like many sites do, and you get that element across then people will follow and like your site as it is unique!

Content – Without continuous content your site and blog will quickly become obsolete. People tend to move on rather quickly, so unless you are pumping out content on a fairly regular basis people might turn away. Of course, some blogs can post content every few months and still have the traffic, because their site is unique. Content can be anything, but if it is developed using personalisation and passion then it will likely reflect what you want to blog about. I have seen many blogs which all have unique content.

So, a brief post on digital website success. Blogging is slightly different to a regular site in that a blogger regularly posts content. From poetry to written works, reviews, music, life blogs, exercise, spiritual, sexual and more… and they all exist using WordPress.

Writing Morning – Hello!

Good morning fellow writers! I hope you are enjoying the rising of spring. Here in England it is sunny, warming up by the hour and the trees are finally getting the leaves back. I am sat here now on my laptop and in the sun coming through my apartment window. I drink tea from a glass. I have no radio or tv in the background. For the last few hours since about 5am I have been writing.

This morning has been a writing morning for sure. Not just any session though, it was the start of a new romance novel and so far I have managed to write 8000 words, no I am not kidding you. It took me just over 3 hours. I didn’t even pay attention to the time and this is why: because this story is coming naturally to me, I can see so many things, so many characters and their lives and motivations and what scares them and I know what the story is about. At its core, the story is a love story, hence I categorised it as romance.

I don’t usually write love or romance novels or stories, but I will include those elements into my other works. However this story that has come to me is too powerful not to write. I would say the ease of typing it out is due to the fact I can see it clearly. This is indeed a rare moment, especially for me. I would write and write until I could do not more, either because I cannot see a way forward, or because I am bored. That rarely happens. This is a story which I want to tell and more importantly, is touching and pulling on my heartstrings if I am honest. It is about a mans life after his relationship leaves him devastated. Learning to live again, he soon discovers truth.

What are you writing today? Do you believe in love? Why? I will reiterate the importance of a writing goal or schedule in order to increase you productivity and creativity. It fosters good clear routines and can help to maintain motivation. Writing does not have to be confined to one project. I would recommend more than one thing to focus on, so you could write on wordpress, part of you novel, some poetry, maybe a diary. A writer needs to write and developing the habit sooner rather than later will make you more confident, and makes it easier to crank out all those words.

*Update – I have finished my writing session at just under 10,000 words. Incredible work in 5 hours.**

The Honour

At some point in life we endure hardship. People will mock, criticise and laugh in your face and at that point, know that you are on the road to success.

“The only way to succeed is to make others hate you”

Josef Von Sternberg

The cruel and mean behaviour directed at you is clearly indicative that you are doing well in life or that you are disheartening them in some way. If you did not bother them with your success or ambition, they would not bother you. You are a personal threat to them and that propels them to hunt you down. Anger, fear, jealousy and self-hatred drive the negative individuals insane with obsession, as they are more interested in attacking the strong than looking in the mirror.

When you reach for something more, or desire something else in life and start to ride that journey to a greater place, inevitably and sadly, evil will always be there. As the above quote says, to succeed in life is to make others hate you and it is not a conscious effort. I too have felt the effects of this and it can be wide reaching, meaning you might have experienced it and wondered why. That doesn’t make it right, in fact, quite the opposite. You will find those responsible never aim for something more than they are, they are content to be mundane and boring, and so anything remotely better than them will cause actual feelings of self hate, and one can only pity them.

You need to merely distance yourself and you find that they are too cowardly to do anything about it. They seek to undermine and ruin your life, or so they try, and fail. Honour of the ambitious and the self love and reliance which drives us is enough to be that warrior whos soul is pure and whos mind is clear and driven. Integrity in the successful would be developed and mere fallacies will not phase them. Being honest with yourself is important too as you need to be able to understand your own being and those who spew negativity are detached from honesty, just as they are detached from understanding themselves causing confusion and weakness within them.

Honour the shield of my soul

standing steadfast on the gate

small weeds that grow around the garden shed

the light of the sun illuminated my bed

you face the roads ahead

you have the strength of mountains

and the courage of the lion

The Succession Poem

Top Tips To Boost Productivity

In the 21st century it seems 90% of the first world countries are battling with constant stress and constant workloads. Most people are overloaded but not getting much done, either because they are tired and fatigued, or simply fed up. I have seen the result of this, and it isn’t very nice. I don’t believe in statements such as ‘I don’t have enough time to plan’ or ‘I do it as it comes’.

Here are some of my top recommendations to beat stress and boost productivity!

1) Start Waking Up An Hour Earlier

If you want to get on top of your work, and your life, it is imperative to make the most of the day you are given. There is a reason the sun rises so early, it’s because you are meant to rise with it. Yes, it is hard, and an extreme sport for some people. Just the thought of getting up 10 minutes earlier is painful, especially for the limus pigris of us. But in doing so you benefit from tons more than just extra planning time. It makes you feel great, boosts energy believe it or not, and gives you no excuse to miss breakfast! If you rise at 8 usually, then start getting up at 7, have your planner filled and your checklist set, do any emails, eat breakfast or even workout! It’s also a good opportunity to spend time with children or family, depending on if they are awake…

2) Get More Exercise

Exercise is a most crucial thing to human health. Walking, running and swimming are the most beneficial forms, offering the strongest boost to metabolism. It benefits every organ and system within, especially the cardiovascular system. It doesn’t take much, maybe 10 to 20 minutes a day, and you can add a few more years to your life. What’s more, is running at a moderate intensity for just 10 minutes boosts endorphin production, the chemical responsible for making us feel good. So naturally, by getting more exercise, we become more productive. It’s most likely due to the fact work is depressing, and the exercise combats this better than medication can. It also ties into the first, if you get up an hour earlier you can fit in the morning walk or run.

3) Learn To Plan An Entire Week

You have a day planner, which lasts the year, but don’t use it. Well, why get it then? The entire purpose of the thing is so you can plan everything out in the entire week, month and year! Students usually have one, but most probably seldom use theirs. When you go to bed on Sunday, get the planner and write the entire weeks appointments out, don’t leave it till Monday or whenever you see fit. By doing so, you can also plan your free leisure time, your family time, and more importantly the work time you need. It greatly improves time managements as well. One day you could be working 10 hours, then have a free night with no work. Whereas another might be 8 hours working and 2 hours working at home. Having these in a planner makes it so much easier and you don’t go around asking yourself whether you have time to do this and that, and you don’t worry about ‘what I am doing tomorrow?’ Don’t forget the unexpected problems that most people have, such as deadlines being moved forward and covering for sick work colleagues.

4) Cut Out Television

This is ambitious and undeniably difficult for absolutely everyone in the developed world. It’s hard to cut something out which you are used to watching around 4 hours a day, or 5 hours, or more. It’s almost an addiction. The reality is that there is nothing productive about the box, even documentaries and so-called educational shows are just mind garbage. In order to really feel free and lighthearted and able to work harder than ever, you must either a) cut the television out entirely, or b) cut down considerably. You might want to limit the time to 10 minutes in the morning of watching the news before heading off to work, or limit it to 1 show a night. Whatever you choose, know that your mental health will improve immediately because you aren’t masking your emotions by living in a fake reality most of the time. All the time spent watching TV could be spent with family, friends, and doing the work you are probably behind on.

5) Socialize more

It’s a good feeling to spend time with friends and family, but often underrated when it comes to being more productive. You need to socialize in order to maintain a sense of well being, and also to gossip and debate and sometimes just to talk drizzle. It helps to wind down from stress, and that is the most important element of this point; by reducing stress we automatically become more productive and happy. You might struggle if you have children or other hard hitting commitments, but if not then there is no real reason to not socialize! Go out after work with colleagues and spend time watching some football, eat a meal or play golf! Best times would be after work and weekends of course, but don’t limit it to a Friday or Saturday, be the guy or girl in the office who likes to head out midweek to the opera or concert and take someone with you!

So, there you go. Try incorporating these 5 awesome tips into your life and hopefully you can reap the benefits yourself. If you have any suggestions please feel free to comment!

Good luck!
