Our Mental Health ~ Journey of Our Lives

Welcome to this post on mental health! Apologies for not posting anything for a few days too, I’ve been busy. I also found a free flight simulator which I downloaded last night and has been so far real awesome!

So, I collaborated with another writer/poet who joined forces with me in the above Medium post so we could each write about our mental health, particularly depression. I am not putting this in writer spotlight as it is not featured on my site. I would also appreciate if you could clap and comment on Medium to show your support and to make the post more visible to others, so we can raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with being depressed.

This last few years isolation, depression, and general poor mental health have been given a not so good reception, being completely and utterly ignored in those who need help. The system gives those with support more support, and does not support those in need with no support. You understand I hope, that the gravity of the situation is now out of control.

I once heard the actor Jim Carrey say that depression means your body is in need of a ‘deep rest.’ I agree, when you give it what it needs fundamentally, it can start to recover and heal.

Would it be Nice

It would be nice to feel the sand under my feet

it would be nice to watch the clouds in the sky

and it would be nice if we could meet

and maybe not to spend any time to cry

would it be nice

or would it be wrong

if we could skate on ice

or just accept that we belong

it would be nice to see everything

perhaps never seeing anything

or just let it breeze away like nothing

at all had existed in my heart these days

would it be nice I used to ask

all I had to ask for, would it be.

Keep Yourself Motivated

Welcome to this short post about some tips to keep track and on track of your weekly goals. It will help I believe to keep you motivated if you have short term weekly goals instead of pushing for stressful, and unrealistic timelines. Here you can see my suggestion and you can also read my Medium post below on ‘keeping track of your goals.’

1) Try to set small achievable goals throughout the week;

2) Don’t push yourself beyond your current limit;

3) Engage with others to tell them what you want to achieve;

4) Be able to complete the goals and don’t dwell on any shortcomings or failures;

5) Try to reward yourself as little as possible as it isn’t that healthy in the first place, you are human not dog;

6) Don’t be tempted to change a goal because you can’t be bothered anymore.

As you can see this is merely 6 tips, and there exists a whole lot of literature on mental health, motivation and happiness which may or may not be of significant help to you. I am currently reading a book by Richard Wiseman which is fascinating and helpful. I also started reading a practical guide to mental health, or something like that. Both are assisting my writing journey and my life at the moment. In times of difficulty of course motivation can dwindle. With time and the right tools though you can heal and get back on track.

Many thanks for taking the time to read my post and have a wonderful day. Thomas.

What are you planning for this weekend?

I am awaiting an interview outcome, which I expect to hear back from next week. I am writing on here, Medium and want to add another part to the Wattpad story – Apocalypse on Easy Street. Along with trying to round off Fist Fighting the Undead which was a little bit of fun.

Not planning to go anywhere, last weekend at the cinema was as adventurous as it has gotten lately. I did go into town yesterday though and bought a tropical looking rug. It is only small and I’ve put in in my living room in front of the sofa. I wanted one for a while because it is wooden flooring and so when I sit bare foot I want to rest my feet on something that doesn’t slip.

Medlum

No pain or hurt or anger

searing shot in the eyes

you are going to reach the top of your mountain

where you sense the goat

until it flies over

whisk of air

you were never there

Feel free to read the shortest story snippet ever below. Some writing fun. Just another short story development which may never come to fruition like most things.

Cheese Glorious Cheese… & Fries

Confession time. Not last night, but the night before I ate this chicken burger. It was called a ‘tower burger’ and consisted of chicken, hash brown, cheese, lettuce and tomatoe and onion, some BBQ sauce and two lovely buns – not the sesame buns, some variety of gourmet/posh buns. Anyway, I hadn’t slept and I needed to eat so I ordered. It came with really tasty crispy fries with peri peri powder, brilliant taste. I am supposed to be a vegan but since I hadn’t slept I felt like I should divulge myself. Anyway it was lovely and I considered it a treat. Was it filling? Yes it was. Did it taste nice? Hell yes. How did I feel after? I have no idea as half hour after eating I blacked out for 12 hours on the sofa, apparently You Only Live Twice {James Bond} had played on tv and at some point turned itself off, as the day after it said ‘watch again.’ Well I slept right through that.

The picture above is from the site I ordered from. They forget my drink even though I ordered a meal which included one. Not the end of the world, great takeaway. I feel slightly guilty though for giving in to the meaty temptation. I suffered bad heartburn and a ‘junk food hangover’ the next day. It reminded me why I went vegan to begin with!

It wouldn’t be a good post without a poem about said burger: I Ate Chicken, Ultimate Vegan Sinner

Not knowing how passion could exist without it
or how the eyelids could remain awake
the meaning of life slipped into a bun
I remember just how much it was 'yum-yum'
no pickled beetroot, no devastating soya
I just know, I was all out of juice
