Wide Eyes

Your wide eyes,
tearing me inside,
how I long to see the day when you smile,
how you can't wait to feel again,
smothered by black cloaked family,
kind of a cheap familiarity,
as I stare blankly at remnants of days gone by,
when you were consumed by the need to cry.

Wide eyes,
lacquered with fear,
out of tears,
left out in the rain,
drying as you step onto your mental plane.
